148 is the bigger concern, but you are definitely in the high range (which is 140+)

Was this taken after resting for 5-10 minutes?

Both systolic and diastolic numbers in the higher end of the 'normal' range, probably not a big concern at this stage but you would definitely want to keep an eye on it, see a dr if concerned.

Mine is 138 over (I think) 90 and my doctor is giving me quite a bit of shit.

yep well it's certainly an indication you might need a small adjustment to your lifestyle :)

I had my blood pressure taken once just after they said i might have spina bifida, what do you know it was very high! It's because I was freaked out thinking I was going to die or something, they laughed

The doctor gave me a diet today . But I doubt that I can follow it. I don't cook for myself and eat out quite a bit. Said my pressure has been normal for 3 years and the last two months borderline and that he hated to start me on meds it diet would do it.

just from my working, if i see a bottom number over 100 compared to the top at 148, it makes me slightly bit more concerned. altho both scenarios are high, its almost 6 of 1, half dozen of another... since numbers can fluctuate every second and those 2 examples are kinda close. both examples are high. while the top number is high and says the heart is pumping hard, the bottom number, when high, says im not relaxing enough before i work again. GL and get those numbers under check!

of course noone wants to start someone on meds if diet will do it cause then u r putting other organs at risk for developing problems, then u have to start meds to combat those problems...try the diet, even the smallest bit can help

PS i think its nice that u guys have a place among a gamblers forum to ask personal questions about problems, cause i see so many men that have no clue about health concerns.

Don't forget exercise. Even without big diet changes, walking a mile a day can do a lot of good (especially if you're a lazy POS who doesn't do a thing).

Sincere Thanks to all that responded. I'm worried which in the old days would make me head straight to the bottle....gave that up and simply smoked more cigges. Quit those 3 years ago--don't mis them at all but my weight has zoomed!

By no means is it anything to panic over-you are not in the BAD territory. It's just time to start doing something about it, and it should improve a decent chunk in the next 3-6 months.

Get a little exercise-walk, jog, bike, treadmill...whatever you like best. You can see some big changes in 3 months & you'll fell damn good too (even moreso if you can get yourself to avoid the shitty foods).

BTW-The nicotine is a big part of the high BP issue. I'm in the same boat-I chew.

Yes, please dont freak out, you are OK and lets have a :toast: to NOT believing that 'ignorance is bliss' . you are on the right track, which is doing something now.

TT, shouldnt the nicotine be out of his system after 3 yrs? i dont know the deal with that, but that shouldnt be an issue anymore, no?

I went on a NSA (no salt added) and sodium free diet. My bp went from 150/101 to 128/98 in three days. I don't smoke, I exercise 5 days a week, but like you I hate cooking and wasn't eating the fresh foods I needed. Cut back on your sodium such as canned foods (esp soups), salted pretzels, chinese foods (loaded with sodium), and even diet sodas have sodium. Drink your water. Exercise. Drop a few pounds (which sodium free diet will help you do).

If you decide to take the lazy route and go on the meds...hope you have good insurance (they're not cheap). I'll save my $$$ for the ponies.

P.S. Here's a cool site for tracking your bp. Good idea to check it regularly. Blood pressure is nothing to fool around with. http://www.weighttracker.info/Default.asp

Day One of this diet has been a BITCH. But I've allmost made it through.
Nicole--There is no soup allowed for any of the choices and I've kep Campbell's in business for the last few years---I miss them allready. Guess I'd better get used to Tuna fish and yogart etc. (This diet is 1500 Calories/ day). Is that about a normal calorie diet
I forgot about my nighttime snack allowed 1c skim milk with 8 animal crackers or 3 graham crackers or 6 saltines. Yipeeeee!

1500 calories for a male! 2000 sounds more reasonable. Do you exercise? If so you'll fall out! Saltines to control blood pressure?????? Nooooooooooooo!!! Sounds like a quack to me!

You need a diet that you can stick with for life. Nobody can live on tuna fish, yogurt and animal crackers. If you HAVE to eat Campbell's then look for the low sodium kind.

I eat four to five times a day. Breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner and maybe a snack. No bread, crackers, chips, lunch meats, sweets, or dairy. It gets easier believe it or not. I eat lots of fruits, grilled chicken, vegetables, low sodium tuna fish, baked potatoes, rice, salads, and treat myself to an ice cream every once in awhile. There is so much you CAN eat. Make the effort and you'll be glad you did.

EXACTLY RIGHT!
1500 calories is far too little... 2000 is the minimum you should be consuming even when you're trying to lose weight. Aim is not to lose 10lb in a week, that is a bad idea.

My doctor is definately not a quack. I also did a double take when reading about the 6 saltines as a possible snack at night. Maybe they mean salt free ones. (might have seen those)
This diet allows lots of different fruits and some veggies. Some shredded wheat, chicken breast, etc.---I don't know how to cook and am not going to learn.
The only thing that I can think of as to why it is only 1500 calories is that doc figures I won't stick to it but will be a guide. As for erercise I walk 45 minutes / 5 days a week. That's it.
I can't find any soup that is low/no salt. Will look around at other grocey stores.
But I feel better in just one day! So MAYBE--I will make it with this diet.

Was teasing with the quack comment. Hell my Dr. is 5'4 and must weigh 250...tells me I could drop a couple of 1bs. Would love to see her jog 4 miles with me. I just find it hilarious at some of the advice they give out.

I hate cooking and grocery shopping. I usually nuke most of my food. Thinking about trying out the George Foreman Grill.

I walk several hours a day (3-4 hours) for work, and I don't see any difference in my body weight from walking...you would think walking that long 3 days a week I would be ripped to shreds lean.

I hope all that walking stuff is doing some good.
